And it\u2019s easy to answer, too.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/legistar.council.nyc.gov\/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=6632578&amp;GUID=874ADD05-D520-4896-BA03-79A18349EADD&amp;Options=&amp;Search=\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span>April 2024<\/span><\/a>, The New York City Council announced its consideration of a bill that would \u201csignificantly increase what third-party delivery apps are allowed to charge restaurants.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under <a href=\"https:\/\/legistar.council.nyc.gov\/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=6632578&amp;GUID=874ADD05-D520-4896-BA03-79A18349EADD&amp;Options=&amp;Search=\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span>Int 762<\/span><\/a>, a restaurant\u2019s third-party delivery fee would increase from the previous maximum of 23% (set back in <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/08\/27\/nyc-to-cap-uber-eats-doordash-and-grubhub-restaurant-fees\/\"><span>2021<\/span><\/a>) to a whopping, almost-doubled 43%&#8230; and unsurprisingly, nobody is on the same page about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an email to Restaurant Business, an unnamed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.restaurantbusinessonline.com\/technology\/nyc-bill-would-allow-third-party-delivery-commissions-43?utm_source=Marketo&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=NL_RB_Daily_06-24-24_09:00&amp;LID=40701767&amp;sp_eh=aade39ecbe963d0ba9fc23975e925f17087de633a96e6b4a7bec92d1375bc6c0&amp;mkt_tok=NTYxLVpOUC04OTcAAAGT6YgwlTbYmaGEp_6UFr0cA_bCCfb5xtva8lBwq6fijEmhwtAnwo5gdC3D9Ww-d4-4TFIW6YFlS6ttFcV2VQRzdwu-XWMz-kmLq5T1GgT2z84fRSEE\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span>GrubHub spokesperson<\/span><\/a> spoke positively of the increase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They said it would not only allow \u201cNew York\u2019s small, independent restaurants [to] once again have the necessary flexibility to market themselves,\u201d but also help grow their customer base and better compete with the \u201cbig chains.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Andrew Rigie \u2014 Executive Director of the New York City Hospitality Alliance \u2014 couldn\u2019t agree with GrubHub <em>less.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe delivery giants say they just want to offer restaurants more \u2018marketing services\u2019 but this political sleight of hand would let them bury restaurants in search results if they don\u2019t pay up,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.restaurantbusinessonline.com\/technology\/nyc-bill-would-allow-third-party-delivery-commissions-43?utm_source=Marketo&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=NL_RB_Daily_06-24-24_09:00&amp;LID=40701767&amp;sp_eh=aade39ecbe963d0ba9fc23975e925f17087de633a96e6b4a7bec92d1375bc6c0&amp;mkt_tok=NTYxLVpOUC04OTcAAAGT6YgwlTbYmaGEp_6UFr0cA_bCCfb5xtva8lBwq6fijEmhwtAnwo5gdC3D9Ww-d4-4TFIW6YFlS6ttFcV2VQRzdwu-XWMz-kmLq5T1GgT2z84fRSEE\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span>said Rigie<\/span><\/a>. \u201c[It\u2019ll] make it harder for New Yorkers to find local restaurants that can\u2019t afford to, or don\u2019t want to pay to play.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, \u201cwhy now?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, it\u2019s not that we\u2019re ditching the third-party platforms <em>completely <\/em>\u2014 they\u2019re still good for <a href=\"\/blog\/beginners-restaurant-marketing-guide\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span>marketing<\/span><\/a>!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s just that it\u2019s <em>much better<\/em> to weigh your options at 23% than at 43%&#8230; don\u2019t you think?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"separators-custom-box  \"  style='background-color: #fff8f1;'>\n\n\t\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"cta_title\" \n\t\t\tstyle='color:#000000;'\t\t\t>Want to integrate with delivery platforms?
