Questions within the BEI framework are often very niche, asking for the who\/what\/when\/where\/why\/how of barista-specific experiences so you can gauge whether the candidate\u2019s competencies match your expectations and requirements.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Common barista interview questions using the BEI Framework include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Can you tell me about a time you went above and beyond for a regular?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Think about the last time a customer got upset about their service. What did you do?&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What\u2019s the most complicated drink you\u2019ve ever made? How did you learn to make it?&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can you give me an example of a time you messed up an order and how you handled it?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2 \u2014 Situational Interviewing (SI) Framework<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>While the BEI Framework focuses on a barista candidate\u2019s real, past experiences, the <a href=\"https:\/\/careers.northeastern.edu\/article\/interview-type-behavioral-and-situational\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span>SI Framework<\/span><\/a> focuses on a candidate\u2019s ability to respond to different hypotheticals in the future.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hypothetical situations in the SI framework are helpful for a few reasons. First, they let you test your candidate\u2019s approach to common situations in your coffee shop, regardless of whether they\u2019ve done it before. Second, they allow your candidate to showcase skills and traits that wouldn\u2019t have been evident through behavioral questions (i.e. values, personality, etc.). Third, hypotheticals make for easier comparisons between candidates; since the situation is made up, everyone can answer no matter their experience.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Common barista interview questions using the SI Framework include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>How would you approach training a new barista on our signature latte art?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What would you do if a guest asked you a coffee question you didn\u2019t know?&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What would you do if you saw another barista breaking food safety protocol?&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How would you deal with a customer having issues logging in to our <a href=\"\/blog\/benefits-of-app-coffee-shop\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>mobile app<\/span><\/a>?&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3 \u2014 Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats (SWOT) Framework&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The SWOT Framework focuses on a barista candidate\u2019s self-reported strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (adapted from a strategic planning framework for businesses called a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/asana.com\/resources\/swot-analysis\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span>SWOT analysis<\/span><\/a>\u201d).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like the other frameworks, questions from each section of \u201cSWOT\u201d can be used to evaluate your candidate\u2019s skills and traits as they pertain to the barista position. However, one of the strengths of the SWOT framework is that it allows you to get creative with what questions you ask and how you ask them. And, by answering those creative questions, your candidate can show off their personality in a new light (plus you get to know them better, too!).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Common barista interview questions using the SWOT Framework include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What are your 3 favorite traits\/characteristics about yourself and why?
